D&D 3.5 campaign

Post by Orod »

(EDIT, WE ARE FULL, but please, tell me if you are interested in joining up another group, i might just have the time to spare)

I joined this forum today with the intention of starting up or joining (or running) a D&D game, as i have not found a gaming group at the place I live yet.

Now, I have four years of experience with the 3.5 edition, not as much with running a forum based game. So if someone would like to join or run a game, I will put my knowledge to your disposal.

As a side note, I have earlier played using IRC, and if that is preferable i would not at all mind arranging something like that, so please answer if you are interested or curious.

Great

That is one down, three to four to go, I do have a campaign in mind if no one with a great urge to DM signs up. It will be high fantasy, high magic, and a great bit of side rules allowed, so i would like to hear about characters in advance. More info will come as soon as i hear a little about preferences.

Great, two or three to go. I can cover the DM part if there is no wish to do it, no problems there, although i would appreciate some guidelines by your experience, especially on the dice and points setup you feel work best.

Awesome, I think I can give some details now, as it is looking like I'll be the DM.

Attached a file containing the basics, all questions are welcome.

I will summarize the most important bits here anyways
World: Taruk, Land: Empire of the twenty, Town: Indion, Year 996.

It will begin as you all for one reason or another answers to the call for people stepping up as guards for a caravan.

I may or may not join depending on how my schedule looks in the next week but otherwise I'm definitely interested.

Excellent, then i suppose we should start planning the party, as with ability scores, i suppose the standard point buy with 28 (EDIT 25 points due to the number of characters) points to your disposal is fair, as i have experience with characters dying. I prefer if you use WOTC books only, and incarnum is not a system i have introduced to my setting yet.

Now, any wishes to what the campaign shall contain (dungeon crawl, NPC-character interaction, great battles, wilderness survival etc...) will be attempted integrated

Do you have room for one more who is inexperienced but easily taught and eager to learn?

I have the 3.5e PHB, which I've read through and tinkered with character creation. Have a game that will start to meet a couple of Sundays a month. I also JUST started with a Dark Sun encounters group (I know, different ruleset, but I wanted to get acquainted with the in-game mechanics).

Definitely not new to gaming (I am a big RPGer on PC and consoles), but never had anyone locally to play PnP with until very recently... and I'm hooked.

That is good, now, what i will need from you is basically your character sheet.

As with ability scores you will be using the earlier mentioned points system where you get 28 (EDIT: 25 points due to the number of characters) points and start with each score at 8, then you can pay some of the points to increase stats with the cost being (total, not for each step) 9:1 10:2 11:3 12:4 13:5 14:6 15:8 16:10 17:13 18:16. After you are done with distributing the points add racial modifiers.

You will naturally start out at lvl 1, and i will tell you as soon as anything should change facts about your character.

As for the action itself i would prefer if you would make die rolls in advance when you try for something, and give me some time to answer such messages, it would also save some time if you take into account alternate results when you act (for example if you shoot an enemy three times, mention your attack and damage rolls, and choose secondary targets if the enemy should fall after the first shot)

Other than that, any things you are wondering about?

Not at the moment. But I will have many as the campaign progresses, and I'll PM you. You're free to contact me anytime via email or IM at the info in my profile, too.

Is it too early to pick class/race?

Not at all, the earlier we have all clear the faster we can begin to play, and the earler you start the better we can tailor the character to fit

I enjoyed playing a Ranger yesterday, so that's what I'd like to play this time around. Race... TBD.

ah, why not, but will make some adjustments more specifically to the points and all those classes are OK by me (actually find the swashbuckler concept awesome).

What are your opinions on monstrous PC races? Probably won't go with anything with a level adjustment if you decide to allow it.
