If you're looking for a mod to re-inject some life into Troika's Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, then the newly released companion mod is a pretty good choice. Here's a quick description of what you can expect:
VTMB Companion Mod enhances Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines by allowing players to recruit party members and traveling companions. Enhancements include ability to: possess your traveling companions and use their special abilities, place companions around your haven in an assortment of animated poses as decor, tell party members to change outfits and embrace select NPCs later in the game. Includes hundreds of new conversations crafted from the original game's audio and adds support for installable companion outfit packs.
After checking out this teaser video on YouTube, you can head over to FileFront and start downloading.

I do worry about it unbalancing the game. However, at a cursory glance it seems to be impressive work. Congratulations to its creator. It's nice to have a few mods out there for this fine game.

One thing the original game didn't have was a difficulty level setting. So, it is true that using companions can make the game easier. But they are also optional and how much a player uses them is up to the player. You can tell companions to not fight or simply leave them at the haven if you find having two fighting companions makes the game too easy. But for others who found the original game too hard, the mod opens the doors and makes it less intimidating, especially those who care more about the story line aspect and less about the fighting.
