Emotion: Hopelessness
Emotion: Hopelessness
Does anybody know what spell the counters effects Emotion: Hopelessness? This goes mostly about the spell Wailing Virgins on the burial island in HoW cast.
The spell will wear off within a few minutes, so no counter is really needed although it does incapacitate members of the group.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

I have a group of 2 people, The place where I'm talking about a few minutes (1 round to be exact) results in my main fighter getting sliced and diced. We're talking about somebody who has an AC of -14 here. He can handle himself, but needs to be able to fight preferably with backup from cleric (run undead). Since this spell has an area effect, I have neither.
I could sneak through the area, but if memory serves me right I need to access some (trapped) containers.

On a skim through the manual (for something else) I stumbled on the answer. Apperantly Blood rage prevents you from feeling hopeless. Note however, that there are some drawbacks. It does not cancel the effect if the spell is already cast. You lose total control over your character. It will even attack your own party members, but as far as I have seen it, your character still prefers enemies. After the spell has passed (duration 2 turns) you get fatigued and your strength is reduced to 3 for 2 additional turns.
A second thing I noticed, is that undead summons seem imune to emotions (duh). They are however of limited use. They have a to high taco and are sliced up pretty fast were I am now. :mischief:
Hope to help anybody who stumbles on to this.

This is quite interesting indeed. Rabain mentioned Dispel Magic earlier. It "should" work but your mage or cleric that casts it needs to be at a level roughly equivalent (or higher) to what the wailing virgins are considered to be. I have used Dispel Magic successful each time I have gone through there though. Seems like my spell casters were usually around 12th to 14th level by that point IIRC.
Also I believe I had my cleric once use Exhaltation to get rid of it. Exhaltation is not a popular spell I know but this is one case that it comes in handy.
For a mage, or mage combo I would think that a Globe of Invulnerability (not the minor one) would work too since the Emotion family of spells is 4th level. Well for that matter so sould Anti-Magic Shell but since that is a 6th level spell IIRC a mage might not be high enough level at this point. Though if you only have 2 characters they might be.

UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE
Exaltion does not get rid of Hopelessness; it affects beserk, confusion, panic, etc. Chaotic Commands prevents Hopelessness from affecting your characters if cast on the character prior to being bespelled (e.g. CC does not remove Hopelessness but will prevent its effect). Impervious Sanctity of Mind (lvl 7 priest spell) and Mind Blank (lvl 8 mage spell) will also prevent it - both are caster-only spells, so it's impossible to say whether they could remove Hopelessness.
When your back is against the wall... the other guy is in a whole lotta trouble.
