IIRC, you have to ask the Practical Incarnation about it before you can use it, but you only get the dialog option if you learned from Pharod why he was looking for it.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Hmm

I did both of those. Pharod told me why and I spoke with the Practical Incarnation about it. Strange...

OK, I've looked through the game with IE, and learned that you need to have the following dialog with the Good Incarnation:

NO: "Before you said that when we die, traces are left in the mind. That's what caused you all to emerge. Right?"

Good Incarnation: "My understanding may not be complete, but yes, that seems to be the case. And we may make ourselves felt in small ways."

NO: "So, is it possible that the first of us - the real one of us, before all the incarnations, might still be buried somewhere in my mind."

.
.
.

Your INT must be higher than 16 to get this dialog (you've got no problem there).

Monkeys!

First you have to tell your practical incarnation you have the sphere - I didn't do this the first time, because I thought he might try to take it off me - then you have to talk to your good incarnation, and discover that he is the *spoiler*............Original incarnation........*end spoiler*, and then you use the sphere as you would use any item. 2 million experience, 8 levels, hurrah!
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, WATCH IT! I'm HUGE!!

SPOILERS AHOY!

@Andar,

I shamelessly ripped this off from Dan Simpson's walkthrough. Assuming you have done the things that Sojourner mentioned,

(After merging with the three incarnations,)

"After that, Deionarra will appear.

Before talking to her, right click the Bronze Sphere and Use it. Clasp it
and feel regret, then follow this conversation. For this you get the
largest experience bonus in the game:

2,000,000 experience
Symbol of Torment

Talk to Deionarra. If you want to, you can tell her how she died. Tell
her the truth and she should forgive you.

*ALIGNMENT*: Telling her how and why she died is a GOOD and mostly LAWFUL
act.

Ask her to teleport you out and she will."

That should do the trick.
