After BG2

Post by sigurdh »

Hi guys!

I finished BG2 and TOB even years ago (and since over and over again), and have never gotten any further. I tried Icewind Dale and NeverWinter, but I didnt really liked them. I only play multiplayer with a friend, so the single player games out there, are no options either. But where to go?

I tried some mods, but it was quite a frustration. I spend a whole weekend researching and installing, only to find out that the dificulity levels were absurd, and the mods were filled with bugs, that made them close to unplayable.

So do you have any suggestions?

Either another game or some mods that work decently. Any help would be appreciated!

Moving to RPG Discussions.

Most mods are not filled with bugs, and very few of them increase the difficulty level of gameplay. You might try checking out The Pocket Plane Group to see just how many mods are available that affect other matters, such as adding new classes, new party NPCs, new items, shops, and quests (including one that restores a host of intended quests removed when the game was released).

As for other titles, the best one I can think of that would please a BG2 player is Planescape: Torment. PS:T strongly influenced Bioware's developers when they were working on BG2, as they themselves admitted.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

As Fable said, there are some exceptional mods out there for BG2. Honestly, as long as you follow the installation instructions carefully, you shouldn't have any trouble with most Weidu format mods. Check out Pocket Plane Group's master list. By the same token, there are some great mods for BG out there, if you go through the hoops required to install Tutu and it's mods. Most of the mods that are out of Beta are not particularly buggy unless you do something funny in the installation process.

In terms of new games, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what you'd like, particularly given that you "only play multi player." PS:T is a great game, but it's probably not the most multi player friendly game in the world. You *might* like Neverwinter Nights 2. Personally, I thought it was an improvement over the first game. It's not as challenging or engaging as BG2, but it's a decent game and storyline. It's expansion is better than the first game. By the same token, you might enjoy Icewind Dale 2, if you haven't tried it yet. If you liked the first one, you'll probably really like the second game.

You might also consider IWD2 installed with Domi's NPC mod. Essentially, you have a choice of various recruitable NPCs at character creation, and they each have distinct personalities, backgrounds, conversations etc. Thus, IWD2 becomes similar to BG2.
The mod is very stable, and I highly recommend checking it out:
G3: The IWD2 NPC Project

Of course.. I don't think it really is compatible with multiplayer..but..

You might want to try the Fallout series. The first two games are strictly singleplayer, but Fallout: Tactics is a multiplayer game. It varies from person to person. Some love the last one, while others hate it. I myself am heavily leaning to the latter category.

The last one, while it may bear the name of the RPG, it's more of a tactical game than anything else. Still, you might enjoy it.
