Better Living Through Chemistry
I was having fun with alchemy and I wondered if anyone else had some favourite recipe combinations, I love creating multi property potions.
This is one that is much fun when dealing with magic users:
Mage's Woe
* one part void salts
*one part shalk resin
*one part golden sedge flowers
*vampire dust
Resulting Properties: fortify strength, fortify health, spell absorption

I'll be back to this thread after I've had a chance to go home and make some recipes.
I make a bunch that restore and/or fortify fatigue, health and magicka; one that blocks lightning and resists shock.
I've got a bunch with multiple effects that are more for using one effect at a time.
Have you seen any "grandmaster" alchemy tools anywhere? I just bought a grandmaster mortar and pestle in balmora and figure their must be grandmaster models of the other stuff somewhere.

I'm not sure if I got mine at the Gro-Bagrat plantation or not... basically it's this skooma factory that's on the path north of Vivec. In the basement there's tons of skooma and I *think* grandmasters items? Shoot, I could be completely wrong, who knows. If that doesn't work, scout around in Sadrith Mora, especially if you've got good sneak.
you know what they say about all work and no play...

Crab meat - corkbulb root - scrap metal - saltrice

Mixing
raw glass or sload soap

frost salts
fire petal or black anther
Provides Fire shield, resist fire, restore magika and (the downside) drain speed

Where in Balmora did you get yours? Not that I would buy it, because I already have one. I was just curious, because I also found one, but to get it, you would have to somehow steal it from Nelcarya of White Haven's house.
I wanted to change my sig, but I can't think of anything to change it to

You actually can buy it from her.

Okay, now that everyone knows where to obtain their equipment, let's brew some potions and perhaps share the recipes

If you want some cheese, combine
Ash Yam
Netch Leather
You get fortify intelligence. Yes its common and easy formula, but perhaps someone somewhere someplace didnt know about it, and now they do

What a wonderous love it is
To bind two souls in faith,
Chained completely together
With never a false word,
Weal and woe, wish and real,
Woven each together
From first kiss to last breath
First and last whispered in love
Ashland Hymn

Juice of the Witch Hunter:
bloat
wickwheat
fire petal
void salts
Spell absorption and fortify willpower. Don't bother if you're not very good at alchemy, but this is an awesome mix if you're really skilled.

What Aqua-chan said. I never stole from her in the first place; I bought the diamond the Thieves Guild wanted.
I left my notes home but tomorrow I will be back sharing some of the multi-effect potions I've been coming up with.
Oh! and that trick of downing a "Fortify Intelligence" before taking up the mortar and pestle really works. I have potions with durations of more than three minutes, they don't weigh a thing. Some of you old hands may be doing better, but this is the best I've done with potion-brewing so far.

Sort of off topic. Question about the alchemy skill. I've gotten my character trained in alchemy up to a skill of 18, but she still fails at all the potions she makes. At what skill level do you start to make successful potions? Does intelligence count towards the skill as well? She's pretty dumb, with an intelligence of 45. Does she need to be smarter as well?

Intelligence does help, but your alchemy skill is low. Drink Fortify Intelligence potions, and make simple alchemical potions with cheap ingredients. That should help develop your alchemy skill. I would say you'll see a significant difference somewhere around 30 or so.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Intelligence helps. Make a few potions of Fortify Intelligence by combining Ash Yam and Bloat (Well, you can use Ash Yam and Netch Leather or Netch Leather and Bloat whatever, but my favorite is Ash Yam'n Bloat. ).
After drinking the potions, try make some new potions, you should see, if you have raised your intelligence enough, that you will success more often. Now, go buy lots of ingredients to buy potions, and start making potions to get Alchemy skill.

Yeah. I didn't start making potions til I was up around level 40 cuz your level is roughly your percentage chance of successfully making the spell (I trained a lot under that Kajiit in the mage's guild you work for, and a few other kind alchemists around Balmora)
The real successes in potion making seem to me to come at higher levels. Your potions start coming out better than the stuff you can buy, and they weigh a lot less. I can carry dozens of potions around cuz they 'most all weigh 0.0!
Intelligence helps. If you down a potion to fortify your intelligence right before you start mixing potions, it'll help make them better.
There's some constant effect fortify intelligence ring (Mentor's Ring?) I wear when I'm brewing too.
If you decide not to pursue alchemy, don't feel you've wasted 18 levels. At level 15 you know the first effect of a reagent, which is something you can benefit from just by eating the herb or skin or whatever. There's a mushroom you can eat to breathe underwater, marshmarrow (or whatever) restores health; I'm sure there's lots of other reagents that are useful right off the vine.

Well in this case I think it would be more apt to say 'right off the daedra' ... but you can eat daedra hearts "raw" to restore magicka. They can also decrease your agility level but not by too much. Recently I was at a point where I could not rest and my magicka was gone, but I needed to mark my location. I was dreading the thought of having to trudge all the way back to the ruin I was in when I remembered the nice tasty daedra hearts in my 'backpack'
