Soo many people post questions about this problem...it would be great to get a sticky on this...
KOTOR2 was QA tested using the Catalyst 4.11 drivers for ATI Radeon cards. Newer and older versions of the drivers cause problems. Since it’s an OpenGL game (as opposed to Direct3D), it only uses the OpenGL driver. If you get the OpenGL driver from the 4.11 version of the Catalyst drivers, you can put it in your KOTOR2 folder and the game will use it instead of the one with your installed drivers. That way you can keep your Catalyst 5.2 drivers (or whatever) and just use 4.11 for KOTOR2. This will solve most of the crashes as well as the lag in the outdoor areas on Dantooine. If you’re still having problems after doing this they might not be caused by the video driver. This one definitely works properly with the following cards (tested): Radeon 8500DV, Radeon 9600, Radeon 9800 (Pro & XT) with Windows XP. I’ve outlined the steps to accomplish this below:
Note: you’ll need some basic Windows and DOS skills to do this.
1. Go to http://www.ati.com/support
2. Go to ‘Find a driver’, click through the options (e.x., Graphics Driver, Windows XP, Radeon…)
3. Click ‘Previous Driver Versions’ toward the bottom of the page.
4. Download the Catalyst 4.11 drivers.
5. Open the file in an app like Winzip and extract ‘atioglxx.dl_’ to wherever you want.
6. Open a command prompt (in WinXP click Start, Run…, type ‘cmd’, click OK)
7. ‘CD’ to the directory where you put ‘atioglxx.dl_’
8. Type ‘expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll’
9. Copy ‘atioglxx.dll’ into your KOTOR2 folder (if you right-click on the game shortcut and click ‘Properties’, you can click the button that says ‘Find Target’ to get to the folder).
10. Play the game.
If you don't know how to do this, you can download a zip file containing the expanded .DLL here (paste into your address bar, don't link to it or it won't download):

Note that this is for Windows XP ONLY. If this doesn't help, here's another tested solution you can try:
http://support.lucasarts.com/tsg/SWKotO ... icsFix.htm
Try them both together and you can see Handmaiden nude!!! Just kidding.
Now if Obsidian would just hurry up with that patch already...

Btw
By the way, if anybody is having problems with ATI drivers and you try either of these suggestions it would be great to know how you fared.
I'm trying to help some other people troubleshoot some problems and I'd love to know what kind of success rate people are getting from trying this. If you tried either one, please post a reply and let me know how it worked for you and what kind of hardware you have. Thanks!
