You already said what it was A soul gem. It's actually the best soul gem out there. It has the ability to store any soul in it. So everything from a mudcrab to a Golden Saint can be trapped in it. The other sweet thing about it is that it is re-usable. After you have trapped a soul in it and enchanted an item using the Star it will re-appear in your inventory ready to trap a new soul.
There is only one of it in the game (obviously ) and it is on Lady Azura herself. And for once you can get something without killing the soon-to-be-former owner of it. Take out your paper map and check the south-east part of Vvardenfell. You should see a statue of Azura. This is her shrine and where you are headed. Venture into her chambers, speak with her statue (inside the shrine, not outside) and do what she asks. Ding ding, you're now the happy owner of Azura's Star.

She had this bet with Sheogorath about solitude. If her priestess can live in solitude for 100 years on this island off of the island that has Dagon Fel without interruption, Azura wins the bet. It has been almost 100 years, but Sheogorath plans to win the bet by sending a bunch of daedra to interrupt the priestess's solitude. Azura wants you to go kill the daedra and prove that it was Sheogorath's doing.

Ya know, there's been a lot of threads about Azura's Star. Try using the gamebanshee search engine for some of your questions. Especially commonly asked ones.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

Yeah, don't use any ' marks when using the search engine. If you'd of tried Azuras star or just Azura, you would've gotten plenty of pages. Azura's star won't work in the search engine.
