At the moment Dak'kon is level 8 fighter and his blade is "Chained blade". Is this normal for this level? If not, what factors affect Dak'kon's morale, and thus the blade? I've taught him the 7th and 8th levels of Zerthinon, and offered to free him, though he says that isn't possible. What else should I be doing to improve his morale?
Any help appreciated. I love this game, but am taking forever to finish it because boring RL stuff keeps intruding!

Ah, the Karach Blade. I think his morale can still be improved, probably with increases to wisdom of yours. The blade exists in three increasingly powerful forms as he makes additional levels; and within each form, there are three different types of Karach depending upon his emotional state. I think Kin-Stealer or some such, as I recall, is the best form.

As Fable said, the blade changes dependent on Dak'kon's morale, which is directly related to how you treat him. So, I'd reiterate, try increasing your wisdom (that's really your most important attribute, period). That should unlock new dialogue sequences (or provide new options). Probably someone like Platter could point you to more "specifics" as to what dialogues options these are. Still, just work at increasing your wisdom, and upgrading the blade should be easy to figure out.

I did some research: the best Karach you can get is when it reads that it's a Streaming Blade. That indicates the highest morale on Dak'kon's part. Still, there will be three different versions of it, that evolve when Dak'kon reaches the 7th and 10th levels.

Dak'kon's morale, like all the party members, quickly returns to the default (in less than 8 hours) no matter what you do. So, his morale only matters if the morale-change happened within a small amount of time before his few blade-changing level-ups (Fighter levels 4, 7 and 10).
You could get Dak'kon's morale to the max, and then rest, and it would be back to the default.
