IWD/IWD II games will not fully load....

Post by Thomas77 »

I didn't get an answer in the forum I originally posted this in, so I'm reposting here....

I've played IWD till lower Dorn's Deep with no problems. I then put it up for awhile because of other priorities. After about 4 months I pulled the game back out. The Logo's fired up fine, the main page loaded along with all my saved games. However, when I select a saved game and click load, the load bar at the bottom scrolls across but once it reaches the end, the game stops. I checked the CPU and it is running at about 90 - 100% capacity (as expected when playing a game). Soooo, after doing this several times, I uninstall/reinstall the game. Same thing. So I decide to install IWD2 and play that. Only that does the exact same thing at the exact same time. I just finished playing BG1, and have no problems with RTW or Morrowind. This only happens to IWD and IWD2. The only changes I've made to my machine since playing IWD last was updating my video and sound card drivers along with updating to DX9.0c. Anybody have any ideas??

Celeron 1.2
512 RAM
NVIDIA 64MB GeForce 4

I know somebody who updated their video card significantly and now they can't play older games on their computer, so perhaps that does have something to do with it.

Well, I just updated the drivers. I wouldn't think that it would cause that kind of problem, but maybe so. Also, I know that sometimes after updating Video Card Drivers or even Sound card Drivers that the System Board and/or BIOS drivers need to be updated. I did that as well. But still no. This is rather irritating as I'm itching to finish IWD and then head onto IWD2.... :(

Are you using Nvidia? their drivers newer than 61.xx are prone to cause problems with IWDII.

Hmmm, any description on what kinds of problems the drivers caused? In my case, the games just won't load....

Depends if any older drivers support the card.

GeForce 4 should most definately have a whole range of older drivers available. Its worth a try :)

I'll give it a try. I have since started playing BG2 and am going to finish that up first. I'll post my results once I'm done. Thanks for the suggestions! ;)
