cultural racism , I dont get it
Someone told me that this is a real term
) Cultural Racism: This term is being used with increasing frequency to draw attention to a shift in the focial point of much racism from physical characteristics such as social customs, manners and behavior, religious and moral beliefs and practices, language, aesthetic values and leisure activities. Whereas post-reflective gut racism seeks to explain and justify racist attitudes in religious or scientific terms, cultural racism attempts the same thing in cultural terms. It involves prejudice against individuals because of their culture. The culture of minority groups is seen as flawed in soem way, and thus as standing in the way of their progress. Unlike post-reflective gut racism, however, cultural racism does not involve belief in the existence of any biological incapacity to change. On the contrary, change is exactly what is sought. Minorities are encouraged to turn their back on their own culture and to become absorbed by the majority culture.

Can you question governments, countries human rights record, welfare system, religion, freedom of expression, economic output , artistic output etc without violating this loosely defined 'so called' term.
I am staying out of this debate. Maybe someone could explain it clearly. I will just read the posts.

Erm...what exactly don't you understand about the definition you posted?
Cultural Racism: This term is being used with increasing frequency to draw attention to a shift in the focal point of racism based on physical characteristics, to a much wider discrimination in respect of elements of social customs, eg manners and behavior, religious and moral beliefs and practices, language, aesthetic values and leisure activities...
Apologies again to whoever wrote the original paragraph
I hope I am stepping on no toes - I understood you...
Does that help you @at99?
Erm - I don't know who I am being bold enough to rephrase here (sorry to you) but I understood the above paragraph by reading as:Cultural Racism: This term is being used with increasing frequency to draw attention to a shift in the focial point of much racism from physical characteristics such as social customs, manners and behavior, religious and moral beliefs and practices, language, aesthetic values and leisure activities

Don't judge by skin color.
Don't judge by how educated they are.
Be polite.
Always treat everyone as an equal, (unless they are your brothers and sisters. They are considered subhuman and you have the right to harass them).
But, seriously try not to get caught up with what the media and some articles say. Sometimes it can be more confusing, than what is really going on. You can learn more about races and their cultures. By asking questions to the person of their race.

Nope just sister inlaws and mother inlaws. Father inlaws and brother inlaws are excused from the rules.![]()

I don't know, my official sister-in-law handbook says "Brother-in-laws are to be considered subhuman and must be harrassed at every opportunity." Article 4, Section 9, Clause B.
DP, stop spamming up the thread
To answer the original thread, I think it is a real word and term used everyday. Cultural racism is used everyday by democratic nations vs communist nations. It is used everyday in comparing cultures such as that of the USA to China.

Questioning governmental policies and belittling someone for their culture are two VERY different things.Originally posted by at99:

Blacks were considered subhuman, not just because of their black skin(this was merely the easiest way to draw the line of seperation at), because they were "uncivilized." Same with the tribes that lived in North America prior to the arrival of Europeans.

Racism is overblown and overrated. There are plenty of politicians or race pimps out there fighting for racism and become millionairs doing so. They wouldn't be rich without it and they keep implementing policies that divide the color line such as affirmative action.

It sounds like he's actually saying cultural racism is deliberately fed by hyocritical demagogues under the banner of patriotism--but I could be wrong; I second your request for a reply. In any case, that doesn't mean cultural racism ceases to exist as a very real problem. The death of more than 2,000,000 people in Rwanda/Burundi's genocide several years ago testifies to the strength of cultural racism as a focusing force for hatred and action.Originally posted by Yshania:

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
