What school of sorc are you???

Post by UserUnfriendly »

After working on another spells table, yeah guys, in too many ways i actually enjoy working and editing sorc spells than playing the game, i realized there are distinct schools of sorcs. not like the spell schools, but the way you set up the spells. now, first understand a sorc is not a mage, and while this method looks like what happens in a mage table, once a sorc chooses a specialty class, its burned forever.

blaster school...nothing but straight blasting spells, and chains and sequencers to load up with. quick draw gunfighter, for a nasty match party goes in, 2-3 round flurry of spells, dead dragon....

powergaming sorc...uses only spells with really killer penalties to save, like spook, or symbols stun and fear, or slow and finger. or spells that always work, like breach or chain contingency, likes taking advantage of cheese, so packs blindess and feeble mind, for blue circle exploit.

summoner...most popular, for simple reasons. packs spiders, skellies, inv stalkers and swords. also packs mass inv and haste to buff skellies and spiders....hmmm.....had a thought, do spiders and swords and skellies benefit from a str spell?? must try out...new summoner tactic...packs both simmy and image to ovverride cre limits, but usually prefers to buff few summons. has death fog to dump long lasting creatures, like skellies, and chain contingency and trigger to spawn a fast group. very nasty, skellies alone are in a chain fast and stops most charges cold, giving you time to summon more and cast battle spells.

buffer, packs a lot of mass inv and haste and imp haste and spirit armor and uses spells to support warrior heavy parties. also packs heavy duty damage over time spells, to generate a barrior thru which monsters have to cross, to attack your meelee types, like an inc cloud before a bunch of wraiths...also packs area effect disablers, the best of which is slow, great penalty to save, and symbol stun, my new favorite spell...such a killer spell!!! cant wait to get to spell hold, now, for ring of free action....

the duelist, usually lasts for maybe a week, before dies messy and usually chunked...this class is a kamikazi class, pick this school of sorcery and you will die, badly...this class beleives the manual that came with the game and read the perfect guide to bg2, thus gets save or else spells, with no penaties to save, and gets spell breakers, like spell strike, and gets spell protections, like spell turning...like painting a frigging bulls eyes n your back. solution, start reading sorc guides, and search on old threads about spells. and above all, read xyx's spell guide, before you get killed!!!!

naturally, many people combine schools for otimal effeect, like th much fav summoner blaster. and those of us who read sorc guides and xyx spells usually pick power gaming spells, insead of picking duelist spells, except i do admit to getting some "fun" spells, like teleport field and disintegrate and polymorph other, disinto and telel LOOK really cool, and I am embarking soon on my master plan to feeble mind each and every dragon in faerun, and polymorph him to squirrel, take a screenshot of aerie chasing it around with a hammer!!!

but it is NOT possible to combine all schools. without adding spells using sk....

buffer summoner, goes well together, and shares many spells, good safe choice for a beginner.

summoner blaser, you have a weakened summoner or blaster selection, as level 7 and 3 packs important buffer for summons or important blasting spells, like fireball. I never get fireball, and while it is a killer spell, sequenced, i prefer flame arrows very nice magic resistant punching ability. if you are 20 level sorc, you have 4 arrows, so each cast will require 4 rolls to get thru magic resistance...so if a demon is 50% resistant, instead of one roll, you roll 4 times, so half should make it thru.

fireball is a really vivious spell, if sequenced, but lich immunity makes me steer clear of it. I've never tried hitting a lich with a fire arrow, it should be immune, but I wonder if the elemental damage will get thru...

oh yeah, kensai sorcs??

blaster buffers, usually. lots of attack spells, but party buffers, so can ether have party or self turn into cuisinart, and most often uses chian contingency, to load up in middle of attack. very nasty...

You can also kill a clay golem with traps. I tried that doing the nalia quest in the place where you find the flail part.

robin, that was the point, almost every spell in the mage books are affected by magic resist, traps are not. enough normal snares and 5 spiky traps will killl every enemy in the game, including the big d in watchers keeep.

but this is cool as it gets, I can now do

PULSAR TACTICS in bg 2!!!

ever play master of orion? one tactic, once you get the pulsar tech, is to equipp tough battle ships with many pulsars and englobe a nasty enemy capitol ship. have each ship trigger pulsar whne ready, and each pulsaar acts like a sunfire, killing the ship. now maneuver your mages in a nasty battle, nasty enough so you want to use this tactic, cause you are facing many foes and they are among your party. all your fighters have elemental resist so fire is above 100%. move mages under haste so you are intersperced among the enemy, have each mage trigger a triple sunfire in spell trigger. you only need to worry about over lapping fields of damage, but here is a test...

two overlapping sunfires took shad dragon to badly damaged. 3 or 4 should kill it dead.

it does in deed seem to by pass magic resistance..

My Sorc is a summoner, always win with the sheer numbers on the ball... :D

My priest is the buffer in the party.
