10 Ill-Fated Franchise RebootsComments:
Posted on Friday, January 30 at 8:59 AM GMT -6

IGN is offering up profiles of ten "ill-fated franchise reboots", a list which includes FASA's recent Shadowrun shooter and Stormfront's Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor.
Released for computers in 1988, the original Pool of Radiance is a generally beloved tactical role-playing game set in the Dungeons & Dragons mythos. It established many standards that would be followed by future D&D videogames and its Gold Box engine was used many times over. Thirteen years later its successor was released on PC, but the franchise hadn't aged well. Dull and bug-ridden, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor was a hack-and-slash affair that eschewed the tactics of the original. While the old Pool of Radiance was revolutionary, Ruins of Myth Drannor felt uninspired and the massive technical issues were an instant turnoff.
