This lil episode reminds me of some of the "quests with a moral" aspects of the old Ultima games.
And given the number of posts I see here from people who can't figure this one out, and just resort to beating on the Manifestation (for "days and days"???)...I think it says something about ...

Not exactly. You're right, it can't be pickpocketed, but you can kill Sarles and you'll find it on his corpse. You'll take a hard rep hit, and if you don't get out fast, you'll lose even more from the Jystevs. Not too ...
