You can also try lowering “Hardware Sound Acceleration Level” (fastest access through dxdiag). There were some titles where disabling hardware sound acceleration solved all problems (slow downs and even crushing). Didn’t have reason to do that for quite some time, but it’s worth a try.

Larger textures requires more memory so it makes sense. But corridors, tunnels should be least demanding because of limited rendering area. There should be no problems with intro either, because it’s prerendered movie. Maybe it’s some kind of problem with audio? Have you tried different settings ...

No, I wasn’t wondering :) . Haven’t done that even once in five years. Maybe there is some more demanding process running in background? Don’t pay too much attention, I’m just thinking aloud :) . I didn’t have problems with Kaer Morhen on 1GB after restarting (without I had). In what places did you ...

Have you started game after few hours of other work, or right after restarting? I didn’t have any problems with Kaer Morhen when started on freshly rebooted system.

I didn’t know Kalkstein had some code. Maybe in add-on we will see him painting St. Lebioda’s dinner :) . I think Easter Eggs thread would be very popular. Of course with notes about language version.
I find Geralt’s iron sword a bit unrealistic. I would like to see someone thrusting and swinging ...

You have to collapse ceiling after you enter the tunnel. I think it may a bug related with protective sign (anyway in my case). You are not supposed to survive falling rocks. Before you enter the big chamber there’s a body on the left with yellow meteorite if you’ve missed it.

Trade Quarter is the only location I've encountered slow downs. There may be some more problems in chapter V, but I am unable to tell, because by that time I had 4GBs. Trade Quarter is larger and have more occupants than Clerical Quarter. More scripts, more textures …
And the game runs better on XP ...

First book of saga is scheduled for August 2008 (Gollancz). Unfortunately I haven’t found release date for the second novel “Sword of Destiny”. Last stories are introduction to events happening in the saga. You can easily skip all the stories but you can stumble on things like in game: You saved ...

Anyhow I came across a dialogue option where Kalkstein says he has a theory that the world is composed of things smaller than the eye can see which are constantly moving and acting on each other.

That theory was created by Democritus of Abdera in IV century BCE.

Too much realism can ruin the ...

Yes, but you define these terms each time differently, as character interactivity or player interactivity.

The game doesn’t have unreasonable requirements but it relies heavily on ram. Especially if you are running it with higher graphical settings. The minimum 1gb of ram is just that – minimum and the game tends to stutter in some places (Kaer Morhen, Trade Wizima being worst). Some said that even ...

If you're referring to conversation with Thaler in tavern I don't think it's broken. The all glorified dialog tree checked for requirements and the result was failure. That is just my opinion because I haven’t seen scripts, but it’s likely explanation. And as for “They’re all safe” I think it should ...

I do not have stability issues but I’m thinking about reducing loading times and I can’t check that myself until my new ram arrives. If 32bit OS can map maximum 4GB of memory at a time does having swap decrease performance because of memory paging or system is “intelligent” and do not use swap? In ...

If the game is good does it matter who made it? All I can say, thumbs up, good work and keep it up. The only sad thing is that many good games were never published worldwide or missed their opportunity because they were released too late (or too early as some game shows). I only hope that I will not ...

I've looked in official forum for some clues
In-game Tech.
and it would seem that constant crashing is caused by Tages protection system. There are some links to download tages drivers, but I also read there that the protection has problems with sata dvds and the only way is to buy ide one.

It may be sound related. I had similiar problems with my integrated music card. Or the problem is the mobo chipset. I've read that there are some problems with Witcher on some for AMD CPUs. I have AMD and NVidia chipset and everything is fine.
