Ok, it was a 'cant see the forest for the trees' issue. I simply wasnt just clicking on the door a second time to open it. BTW - I did try talking to the guard with and without the Sith armor on.

I will double check the UI that pops up when I target the door. I dont remember an 'open' option but maybe I was just not looking closely enough. I cannot figure out how to get into the upper city cantina or into the elevator to the lower city on Taris. I have checked enough of the walkthrough to know that I have the steps figured out and I 'should' be able to get into both. Each door shows as a security door with only the option to use the ...
