Valygar's problem is with his Katana. There is a bug that prevents him from using his Family blade as a backstabbing weapon. You can install a fix for this at Baldurdash or one of the other unofficial patch sites. Or you can equip him with a different weapon like CF.

I concur with Bruce Lee about H'D: He becomes more useful when you know how to use him. In my game his pluses are:
* High level magic missles (good for dragon killing)
* Can tank like no other with offensive spin + stoneskin + protection from magical weapons + tensers transformation.
* He reaches a ...

So if you can summon ANY character from BG2 as a companion in ToB, does that include Yoshimo? If yes, I know a certain bounterhunter who will have to eat some words! "No second chances, no redemption" huh?

This option would also solve the problem of not having any pure thief characters available ...
