It certainly isn't.

Those who've played the vanilla game and desire a greater challenge might be the ones to give the Tactics mod a try.

But it does require patience.

To paraphrase Sytze's comment from a prior thread:
[When using the Tactics Mod,] basically, it's a matter of summons, invisibility/hide in shadows, patience and luring the enemies one by one.
Yep, Sytze, I think you've crystalized the gist of the overall strategy.

I ...

I supposed to give Elvis this link:

Hey, thanks for the link.

It looks promising.

Since I haven't played for a long while, I'm looking forward to seeing what these mods have to offer (if anything).
I'm looking to have a fresh BG2 gaming experience, and since both The Darkest Day and Shadows over Soubar now have Weidu versions I'm wondering which to install.

If anyone has any experiences with either or both I'd really appreciate some information. :)

Also, I'm curious ...

Another game to throw onto the suggestion pile is
Might & Magic VII, For Blood And Honor (released in 1999).

A vast role-playing game in the D&D mode, it's a pretty decent dungeon
crawl.

The 3-D universe is interesting, the storyline (an Elven/Human war) is
engaging (albeit combat heavy), the ...

Ditto!

This suggestion might be sacrilege to some, but I'd love to see the newest incarnation done in ultra high quality 3D.

The isometric view is still enjoyjoyable, yes, but it's had its day.

Why not move on and take advantage ...

Tonight I tried the Twisted Rune for the first time, (the Improved
Twisted Rune from the Tactics Mod, that is).

What ?

The Twisted Rune, for the first time?

Yeah.

It's like this, eh?

While I'm not an SoA/ToB neophyte, I'm no expert either.

Meaning there's still much about the game I know ...

protection from magic scrolls?

I recall reading elsewhere in here that there are only two protection from magic scrolls available in SoA.

Is that correct?

If so, I assume those are the ones Ribald sells ?

(I'm asking because I've bought those two scrolls from Ribald already, I've used 'em up, and I suspect I'll need to replace ...

Yep, some, perhaps. Improved Faldorn , for one.

In my view, this particular component of the Tactics Mod is more than "a bit too strong," as I believe the author dubbed it.

Or perhaps he simply said this ...

I chose the name Elvis because my character is an elf mage.

No rock and roll baggage suggested or implied.

Might be apocryphal, but I understand the name Elvis crops up somewhere in BG lore. As my groaning memory serves, I recall seeing Elvis referenced ...
