There are also some weapons that assist you in tripping oponents (give you a bonus on trip attempts). Use for example the 2handed Flail.
The Feat improved Trip will grant bonus as well, but that was mentioned above.

killing a troll

the only way to hurt a troll permanently (damage he can not regenerate) is by using fire or acid. There is a range of spells based on fire (i.e. burning hands, fireball) or acid (melfs acid arrow).

rapier is a med-sized weapon

A rapier is medium-sized, so it can used by small creatures only twohanded.
Weaponfinesse should be available for rapier or short sword, so use a short sword instead?
