it's not a bug nor a feature, because as far as I know, the prestige classes do count towards XP penatly, thats why human ( or half elf) would count a prestige class as it's favourite class.

If you're playing an elf, why don't you become an arcane archer? that way, you won't need to put your points into strength but dexterility instead, which presumably should be higher than strength in a wizard build, you also won't need cumbersome armor which would result in arcane spell failure and ...
