I guess i took the wimpy way out. I hasted Minsc, then left everyone else by the stairs to the cellar. I grabbed the stuff as fast as possible(hint: you can pause while in the inventory of the statues) and ran like heck to the stairs where everyone else was waiting to venture forth.
