I've done it both ways ... usually, I pick up the quest on Tat though ... what ...

I had a problem similar to Badseed's (I play the PC version) -- I completed the assassination mission before going to the Sand People enclave. I didn't notice if the turrets were there or not, but when I entered the enclave with HK and Bastila (wearing appropriate disguises) I was attacked ...
