If you can stomach the combat mechanics, that is. My advice: Try out a demo first before getting the full game. I think demos are available for all three Gothic games.

Id recommend the Gothic series. They have alot of the same qualities about them as does Oblivion ("living breathing world", first or third person, action type combat, lots of quests, pretty open exploration).
