I didn't beat the best time, but I was faster then all the other scores and the manager was always saying something ...

I got the same. The solution was to keep the right mouse button pressed all the way through ignition and simultaneously starting the swoop with a quick tap on the left mouse button.

You don't miss much however as swoop racing is generally broken:
