I have found that the choppiness is worse when there is a lot of space ahead of me on the screen. If I move the camera angle to looking down on my character from above, or travel next to walls/mountains, especially when partially facing them, gameplay speeds up. I wonder if a few time crystals would help keep your aim true. I don't know because I haven't gotten that far, myself, but they seem like they might help in that situation.
