Since my last save was farther back than I would have like to reload, I continued to kill everybody in the Drow city. I killed the Lich in the tower and everyone in the Joilet(sp?) home and even in the tavern. I went back to the temple and there was Mother Matron herself. I killed her pretty easily ...

Well I guess I did mess up. I have a bad habit of saving my games in a few slots. My last save in a different slot is a lot earlier than I'd prefer. I'm not having any problem defeating the Drow in the city. I cannot find Mother Matron though. I have not returned to the tavern though.
