This time through the game I definitely have a power party

1 CG human fighter, dual weapon path (longsword specialization, focus, improved crit, etc - plus the last feat as exotic bastard sword)
1 CG Dwarf fighter, same dual weapon path of longsword but w/o the bastard sword proficiency
1 CE half ...

Just played through it a 2nd time to experience the Monk class.

This time around, I didn't experience the bugs with the game crashing once I killed Hedrack and then tried to visit anywhere but the Temple and Nulb (so I actually got to collect the rewards from Sargen and Thrommel).

I was running into this too.

What I found is that immediately after a fight, I click the rest icon and try to rest for the 8 hours. I'd say about 7 or 8 times out of 10, I can rest successfully.

They key seems to be resting as soon as you come out of combat mode - maybe the game is still cycling ...
