Problem with Ranged Combat

I am running version 1.2 and when I equip a ranged weapon my targeting Icon does not change. My first game I rarely used ranged weapons so I did not notice it. However, in my new game I plan on using firearms. Is there some setting that could have turned off the ranged combat Icon?
