Just wanted to come back and say thanks for this info. I was getting the flickery and missing text, and your suggestions fixed it.
Of course, by now I've played this game enough on the XBox that I could probably recite most of the dialogue anyway, but your post made my PC Fable playing more ...

I personally have caught a fish weighing in at 45,000 grams and was almost three meters long. The more you fish, the bigger fish you'll get.
