I have the "pickaxe" and I am in the lava lake room. I "use" the pickaxe on the "ore body" on the wall, but it says ore body not working... I can't get the dragon ore... Am I doing something wrong or have I not done something I was supposed to do...? Can anyone help?

I opened grate to big floating critter in snake temple. I jumped in the water and killed the big critter, then I got the snake figurine. I swam back to the opening and climbed out. Now the grate will not open so I can't get out of the room. Help me please.
