Personally I'm running around in the Black Hand gear I got from the Dark Brotherhood, no armor at all, but nice enchantstats. My way of gaming is trying not to get hit in the first place :)

If you are melee though, you'll find free armor sets from regular mobs once you've lvled up a bit.
