Did you speak to Hler or Dren before going to see her? You need to speak to them after obtaining the band before going to her. (You must receive an invitation)

If you have already spoken to them and they have told you to go to her, not sure how to help.

I never realized how much I depended on my little spellsword character's ability to hack his way ...

Yeah, I have thought about that, too. But, I'm enjoying the new character, so trucking on up to Caldera to poke around sounds like a good idea for the moment. If I get fed up with looking, thats probably next.

I start a new character, get a bunch of mods for him, play to about level 6 and decide I don't like him/her. Start over, new character, blah, blah, blah. Then I banged around Oblivion for a ...
I only modded Creeper to 50000 gold. Anything higher, and I'm more likely to keep it as souvenir anyway.
I'm the same way, but how many (insert your favorite high level commonly found weapon here) does one collection need?

Nope

Doomstones don't change your original birthsign, they simply grant you additional powers of another birthsign.

If you go to a different doomstone and activate its powers, you do lose the powers of the previous doomstone.
I am playing on 360 and tried the "~" solution but it does not work am I doomed?
I wouldn't say doomed, but no, you can't do anything at the moment. 360 does not have the console feature.
