well i am not even up to the stone halls yet and all my chars even a dual classed rogue are level 6-7
Important point: unless you really need the npc dont bother getting him you will level your 4 main chars much faster by splitting the experience between just the main chars.
i suggest the cleric ...

multiclassing the rogue to a ranger allows the rogue to use a bow and later get cleric spells , very useful later on when you need ranged combat and abit extra healing power.

i also can't believe how fast a rogue levels up.
