I agree with CFM, I've picked up Kivan in almost every game. He grumps alot, but I've never had him leave.

He's a basically good character, so maybe if you have a totally evil party this may happen, but it hasn't happened to me.

Also the thief Coran will occasionally make comments to the effect ...
