I think I read somewhere that the game will adjust the difficulty of certian encounters (and possibly quests) to reflect the current strength of your party.

Does anyone know what the game looks at to determine how powerful your party is? My thinking is that it just checks the level of your party ...

The same thing happened to me. I placed the meat exactly where it was supposed to be but nothing happened.

I just ended up having to fight them. Cloudkill works VERY well against them. I used the wand of cloudkill that I got from the original dungeon.
