I'm currently running arcanum on win7 and I have no such problem. If its a persistent problem there must be a cause I can't even make a guess atm.
Have you applied the unofficial patch? I couldn't get arcanum to even start without it on win7.

Loghaire [spoiler]

Does anyone know exactly how much CHA/persuasion is needed to convince Loghaire to end his exile?

P.S.
And the answer is... less than 2 ranks in persuasion.
So you can still get the fate point even if u don't have the stats convince his son to show u the secret passage.

I don't usually keep Virgil around since he is fairly useless. However there is a bit of fluff going on (spoils) when he leaves you at T'sen Ang. If by that time your alignment is negative he will become evil later on when you resurrect him in Caladon. Doubt that's the case though.
At any rate if ...

Idk actually Sulik is pretty useful the way I remember it. Actually I think that all npcs will try to "help" you if you tell them to wait and engage combat near them. Life is such... hope he didn't have any valuable equipment with him though

Actually I was screwing around today and on a hunch I let one of my followers with reaction of 40(Dante) get killed. Then I resurrected him and he was quite grateful - his reaction improved up to 70.

Is there a way to raise their disposition after it's dropped or is there even like a cheat code that would do it?
Well there is one way... you could spend a fate point of "force good reaction".

Sogg keeps getting upset when I kill kites.
Well... this does ring a bell to me... but I offer no ...

Well actually now that you mention it, it does make a whole lot of sense. Why would I want to kill everybody on the platform in a gruesome way if the whole damn thing is gonna blow up to shreds anyway? Thanks.

F2: Reactor Shutdown

I go ahead and convince the scientist to release the FEV virus then go ahead to the lower level. As the alarm sounds the other scientist (Tom Murray) panics and I cannot initiate convo with him to convince him to shutdown the reactor. After trying a couple of times I reloaded. I convinced Tom to ...

Raising your charisma of 20 will allow you to keep your followers regardless of your alignment and stuff.
On the other hand I can't see any reason those specific npcs will have anything to say for your deeds. Dog and Sogg will retain their alignment status no matter which path you take, and Virgil ...

Well if you need a healer rather than a tank-healer you can recruit Perriman Smythe or Raven although both have some vexing spells up their sleeve, but heal as good as any.

I think that was one of the issues back when the game was released. I'm talking about the graphics of course. When Diablo II first came out it was long before any 800x600 mode was patched. At any rate... I doubt there's a way to unlock any higher resolution in Arcanum. Or if there is I'm not quite ...

f/m in bg are plain op :S

Anyway... maybe the real question in Arcanum is if you can utilize both magic and technology in this game. Well... possible but not worth it so to speak.

Moving to your real question...
Favored spells for a mage would be:
Disarm, Unlocking Cantrip, Teleport = Conveyance ...

For fighters there is a background "ran away with the circus". It boosts your strength while taking from other stats so that you could probably gain 2-3 points in the long run. If you are playing half-orc however you might stick to the plain simple "factory escapee" +1 ST.

What stroke me when I ...

In terms of power play the most powerful I've created was a half-ogre backstab mage. Weaken seems to ease my hth combat a lot if I ever bother to use it on top of the imba half-ogre bonus damage.

Other than that I enjoy playing an evil half-orc slicing my way up with the Bangelian Scourge.

Hmm... seems reasonable enough. Actually I'm kinda relieved, it'd be op otherwise. I just thought it was strange because the Nature’s Wrath Helm bonus +20% dmg res applied correctly.
