Actually - the NPCs in The Witcher continues to do what they do even while you are in a dialogue "cut-scene".
So you can see NPC walking around behind you, yes and the game did not pause.

Sorry, there is nothing more interactive about reading then watching.
Reading is for books, not games ...

But you also dislike the two-option dialogue trees in this game because it changes interface, supposedly "removing you completely from the game world".
Yet, I've still not been explained why it is removing you from the game-world, neither one or the other.

Can you see what is happening around you ...

The character will always act within the framework of the developers choosing, either by limiting dialogue options - even down to one or two options, closing off paths to areas you can't visit, or simply not placing plot-critical advancements until you reach a specific stage in the game.
Do you ...

To have another mechanism to convey story advancement like this is impossible given current technology and knowledge of the player.

A GM-controlled NWN 1&2 games do this quite well. For this reason, I LOVE the idea of what NWN offers. Yes, the game itself has several limitations, but the idea of ...

I think what you're referring to are pre-rendered cinematic sequences. Aside from two cinematics created by Platige Image (the introduction and conclusion), all of The Witcher's cutscenes are rendered within the game. I don't see how these are cheap from a creativity point of view or expensive from ...

Yes, it depends on definition of mature, however if you consistently focuses on the sexual content and the few reference to dwarf anatomy as the "mature content", then you are intentionally bypassing a large part of the games story which involves racial tensions to a degree not usually depicted in ...

Hi, I decided to check this thread and answer some of your questions. I still haven't played the game since I last posted, but I'll see what I can do.

"It's as if it's full of sex?" Okkkkk ... well still it's not .. clearly. Personally I find there are too few games with mature content and I don't ...

I'll be brief.

- Excessive/unnecessary cutscenes (if you like to watch more of the game than what you actually play (ala Final Fantasy games) then The Witcher is for you)
- Poorly translated dialogue (see my other post)
- Missing dialogue (seriously - huge gaps missing from the dialogue)
- Long ...

Not to mention the fact that there really isn't much that makes this game more than an average action RPG. Sure, it looks nice, but the long loading times, even longer cutscenes, simplistic combat, horrible/atrocious/butchered dialogue make this game sub-par, IMO.

What I can't really understand is why so many people in US and western european countries have so big problem with computer games being _mature_ (is being mature a bad thing?

I don't have a problem with computer games being rated mature. Nor do I have problems with mature elements, such as sex ...

Have to say, I completely agree. But then, most programmers (not all) are hardly good dialog writers. So you end up with games that are well-coded, but shoot themselves in the foot as soon as somebody opens a mouth.

To be honest, you should check the back of the game manual. The Witcher had a ...

It's like a group of D&D high school virgins got together and made a video game

It's like a group of D&D high school virgins got together and made a video game full of all the sex they never had, violence they never dished out, and cuss words their parents never let them say. Look, just because it contains elements of sex, extreme violence, and adult humor (and I use that term ...
