Make sure you freshly install the game first (get rid of any thing you installed before and start from scratch) and immediately install the patch afterward. Pop in the CD 2 ...

Can't create characters on Mac OS X

I have the exact same problem! I have tried to email "MacPlay" but the address is old and my question was sent back to me unanswered. This is very frustrating! There has to be someone out there with a solution or patch or something for us!!!! Please!!!!
