I have completed Khelgars vision quests but I still can't convince him to become a monk (the priest in the temple of Tyr says they will train him any time but when I ask him about it says influence failure). Is there a certain influence value I have to reach before he will become a monk or what?

I have been playing through the original campaign for the first time. I was towards the end of Act 2 and recently downloaded the newest update. Since that update, the game will not start. The launcher screen comes up fine, but when I hit play it shows the NWN2 logo but then the game never launches ...
