Fighters < Mages ?!?

I agree Ninja that an abundance of fighters makes your trip thru SoA/ToB rather simple for most of the fights. Fighters will work hard for you in every fight and hardly ever need a rest.

Any fight with a degree of difficulty however, you will need someone to cast something ...

Balance

I have found that you will not need more than 2 hardcore fighters at the very most. I have played with all NPCs and come to the conclusion that if you have one or two decent fighters with wicked armor class, they can run in and absorb the mob's blows while your mages decimate them from ...

Why a half orc fighter thief!?!?

Be a diesel fighter with plenty of GWW's later on while wielding anything you want and luring them into spiked traps all the while!?!?! come on now, thats FUN.

I enjoy the XP bonus the game gives you while using thief skills and it really should be an essential ...

HARDCORE ROLEPLAYER!!!

Very nice run thru, good specifics on the various things you did to prove you were ruthless and heartless, although I think a lot of swashbucklers are charismatic and fare well with the ladies, you sound more like a chaotic evil barbarian.

As far as party choice for a 1337 ...

If you have ToB installed, then a very useful way of finding things is witht the 'tab' key (being a Diablo veteran helps ^_^) and the keys are not in very difficult places to find, just take your time...

Does anyone else use their potions of haste while completing the 'leg work' for this dungeon ...

I found the wondrous gloves only very useful on Haerdalis. Once you receive improved bard song, it really is the best thing to do with your bard during battle (at least for me). I only used his spells for minor sequencers stakced with mag missiles and acid arrows. and the all important breach/pierce ...

I had a barbarian dual wield and used the Ring of Gaxx, Blackrazor, and Axe of Unyielding. These 3 items mean you are regenerating 2hps every 3 seconds and 1 every 5. I apply my little equation and it comes out to be every second or so.

My barbarian never died and was a monster without all the ...

You can advance the plot to chapter 3 as soon as you raise 15K. This can be done very quickly with only a little XP being gained, placing most characters in the low teens. Conversely you can complete Umar and Windspear Hills, D'Arnise Keep Trademeet, and Druid Grove along with all the town quests ...

I prefer Valygar as the Ranger for my party, but Minsc will do good work for you (Lilarcor in the beginning and then 2 weapon style later on) and is of course, worth it because of Boo and his comments.

If you go with a mage-heavy party, get a PC who can fight and cast, and then add:

Aerie
Cernd
Anomen
Imoen
Haerdalis

You should be able to mutilate anything you come into contact. I finished with those 5 and a berserker. It was simple and I was able to wing a ton of magic missiles at everything.

I still can't understand the rollplaying in a kensai/thief
See, you were a kensai, but you murdered your master, and all of your brothers in the dojo, so now you are a nasty thief, learning to wear armor and wreck it up with all your skills

Setting up spike traps usually gets them pretty hurt too, I think Haerdaelis had around half a dozen when I got there, and with a couple of rests within the compound, the Giants took a lot of damage before the fighting even began.

I recommend as stated above, using dual class to become a thief with basic skills that last the whole game and generate XP and an uber-powerful mage at the end of SoA and continued badassery throughout ToB.

As mentioned, Jan performs this role, and he is clearly not a good choice of NPCs, However ...

Hardiness is a silly skill to get, you could have had another greater whirlwind. When enemies die from 10 attacks in a round, they arent around to hurt you so 40% damage resistance doesnt matter.

Lets make a simple distinction between wands, and limited use items. Most limited use items cannot be recharged except by resting once you have exhausted them.

Any wand can be sold and then bought back -- the ones found in Irenicus Dungeon are the ones I always have used, they come back with 50 ...

I found that once you get around -13 or so mind flayers cannot touch you if you arent stunned. This is however not the case with -10, your brain gets eaten rather quick. If you cant beat em now then you should definitely come back. Cloudkill softens em up a little and then its just a matter of hacking him to pieces and using lower resistance so he is susceptible to minor sequencers of magic missile.

Perhaps you should tell us whom you have in your party, this ...
