Well, here's a tip on how to level quickly in DD without actually cheating:

After killing all the enemies in an area, it gets kinda lonely out there. You can run for miles without a single skull to cleave, because they simply won't respawn on their own.

I've found a solution to that problem.

Also: If there is a container in the house, like a box, a barrel or a chest, you can pick up all the boxes click and hold your LMB on it and move them all into an empty barrel. No more moving around the boxes to get out again, they are all nice and neatly stacked inside your empty barrel

Did you patch the game with the latest patch? (1.34) Maybe that would help?
