UPDATE:

So I used gatekeeper again, set all my stats to max, then fought it again. I put one character at each warder spawn point.

I talked to love, and then watched as dozens of warder clones spawned from the same four spots. With my 25's and five attacks and 100% magic resistance i killed them ...

I have an.... interesting problem with Durlag's tower. After solving the warder riddles and talking to LOVE, I enter a battle. With Warders. About 99 of them. The text goes something like this:

LOVE casts minor globe of invulnerability
LOVE casts mirror image
LOVE casts some really awesome spell ...
