If I didn't take Cernd in my party in the first place in Trademeet where can I find him in order to complete his mission?

I want to ask a question about an ad&d rule. When a weapon is for example a 1d8 weapon, what is its difference to another with a 1d8 +3 damage?

I have killed all creatures in the caves except oche jellies and when I go back to Barud Barzam the conversation with him doesn't have an opinion to say that I killed the creatures. Is it a bug or am I doing sthg wrong.
