It happens if you speak with the leader of the merry fools party and select the first reply choice and then speak with him again and select the same reply. But you must do it really quick, before the leader of the other group approaches you and initiates dialogue. You might need to leave your party ...

Don't know if it has been posted before but if you talk with the merry fools party multiple times (in the helm and cloack tavern), each time the Maulers of undermountain will be summoned. I talked with them eight times so I had to confront 6x8=48 enemies.
