i'v just begun playing bg2 after having finished bg and this time wanted to choose for a kensai/mage;considered that i'm about to dual soon (at ninth level) to a mage ,which school of magic is the best option for a kensai/mage?
a conjurer or necromancy?
not illusionist 'couse i plan to make jan to join the party!
owing that a kensai can't use any armours and for all the mage levels until i will have reached the 10th level(9+1) i won't be able to regain the ability to wield any weapons(i'v chosen katana and long swords with two points in katana for using the celestial fury at the best!) what is the best action till that time acting as a mage?
dual a kensai to a wizard!

Although I'm all for dualing late (at aroundthe twenties), I have to say that you should dual either then or at level thirteen, not nine. That way, you gain an extra half attack per round.
Also, when you dual class, you do not get to choose a school. You just become a plain mage.
First of all, a Kensai can't use any armor at all. However, when you dual class him to a mage (and even if the Kensai class is still inactive) you can still use robes.
The best course of action until you regain your kensai abilities is to learn spells (possibly when temporarily kicking the party members which WILL TERMINATE ANY ROMANCES YOU HAVE GOING). This is because you gain experience equal to the spell's level multiplied by a thousand. So by doing that, you can score a few easy ones and will e at least some use in the party. Consider either having your party members do more work for a time or have a small group to gain greater experience.

Only wait till 20 if you are also playing ToB or somehow increasing the experience in the game...
Otherwise you will never gain your kensai abilities before the end of SoA and you might as well have just been a vanilla mage (except the HP).

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
but one must count that i'm not playing like solo;but with a 6 party ,therefore if i wait too much before dualing to mage probably won't be able to get the kensai abilities back, if not too much later in the game i think.........
and reading other similar threads ,i found with the search button, some say that with a 5 or 6 party it's not advisable to dual after the 9th level(13 or more only for a solo or a 3 or 4 party!).............

It's really up to you, but I think you should be fine if you dual at 13 and still have a party.
I managed to dual at twenty something and still regain my abilities while having two other party members. I know that you can hit the level cap (and still regain your abilities) before even leaving SoA or the second/third chapters for that matter if you play with one other party members. With that, you should be fine if you dual at level 13.

my only kensai-mage dualled at 13 - makes his fighting ability much better - the trick is the spell SPIRIT ARMOUR - I had Aerie learn 2, one for her, one for the PC - that way the AC is always decent enough before you get good levels yourself.
I agree with the poster who suggested making your party smaller for a while then reading lots of spells - I suggest getting a thief into 'supersteal' mode and robbing the snooty woman in adventure mart and the bookseller. the snooty woman deserves it.
a level 9 spell is worth 9k points...
I admit to having made my first few levels after dualling in that way but the best of all is WK - steal the Deck of Many Things and get the points it offers - that usually gets a character near or surpassing an old class level. also WK has so many tough battles, the points earned in fighting them gets many characters up a few levels.
I love WK - i like to go there to boost my stats too...

The perfect time to for dualing depends on what kind of experience you want from the game.
If your only goal is to have an as powerful character when the game is over, like metagaming and using cheesy tricks or engine exploits to pump up your XP then dual at level 13 or later. But there's a more effective way to create super characters. Just use an editor.
If you want to roleplay the game instead of working for an end character, dual at level 9, this way your character will still have most of the kensai benefits and you won't be pressed to use game engine exploits that much.
You should should also know that if you only play SoA the kensai9/mage will be more powerful than the kensai13/mage even at the end and if you play ToB with XP exploits to get 8,000,000 XP, a fighter/mage multiclass will be more powerful at the end than any kensai/mage dual because of the many HLAs he gets.

Hla
I don't like the fighter HLA that much - the thief gets UAI, which is one of the very best, but in a melee, I often forget to activate fighter HLA - a paladin, with summon deva is the exception - summon up deva to 'soften up' the enemy makes sense, but when you have a party, remembering to do whirlwind attacks etc fall by the wayside with me.
planetars are even better - just remember to use their many spells before sending them in to vorpal-kill enemies by the bucket-load.

You should be fully capable of getting very close to eight million exp before even leaving chapter two, and almost maxing the level cap, even if you have a partner with you.
The reason I stay as a Kensai for so late is to have a good THAC0 and to get the Hardiness ability, which gives you a 40% resistance to physical damage.
