Get 30 Silver Keys Early in Fable TLC for PC

How to Get 30 Silver Keys Early in the Game
(For Fable: The Lost Chapters on PC)

Using the Find the Archeologist Quest you can get 30 Silver Keys early in the game, as well as lots of Elixirs of Life, Willmaster Elixirs, and Health and Will potions.

First up, you cannot save items acquired from chests or behind Demon Doors more than once. However, anything in a barrel, out in plain sight, in water or in the ground can be acquired repeatedly using Hero Saves in quests.

Before doing this particular quest I do not smash open any barrels anywhere, nor do I fish any ripples or dig for anything in the ground. I save them all for this quest.

TIP: A way to multiply your Health and Will potions is to go to a shopkeeper before you begin this quest and sell him most of your stock of potions. Make a World Save afterwards, just in case. (Yes, you will lose some money doing this but you will have many more Health and Will potions as a result.)

You start this quest after seeing Maze in his room, then going to a Cullis Gate and teleporting to the Witchwood Cullis Gate.

TIP: To avoid fighting the Rock Troll every time you reload this quest, press <Escape> when the cut scene comes on as you approach the spot where the Rock Troll is waiting, then run past him. Head for the barrel just to right and past him near the fence. Without breaking stride run over the Will potion and Ages of Will sitting there, then run on through the gate to Witchwood Stones. The barrel contains a book which you can get later if you want, but if you try to get it now that will give the Rock Troll a chance to pound on you.

Note that only with this particular quest can you visit and teleport to any area on your known map without leaving the quest area.

TIP on Fishing: If you find that the fishing game is being difficult when you try to get a silver key or other item from a ripple, go ahead and snap the line. Then restart the fishing game. In most cases the next game will be easier to complete.

The Silver Key Locations which you can harvest repeatedly are:

Witchwood Stones - Ripple in pond across from Demon Door.

Witchwood Lake - Dig at the base of the red-lighted statue.

Guild Woods - Ripple in pool. (This is the only ripple in Guild Woods.)

Bowerstone South - Go up to the balcony at the clothing shop.

Lookout Point - Path behind the thorn bushes.

Fisher Creek - The middle ripple North of the cabin. (Note that sometimes there's four ripples in a row here. Fish the middle two until you find which one has the key.)

Greatwood Lake - Go up the right hand path to the broken bridge.

Orchard Farm - Ripple at the end of the farthest dock in the orchard area.

Rose Cottage - Dig the center of the circle of red flowers. (Rose Cottage branches off from the Greatwood Cullis Gate area.)

Greatwood (Hobbes) Caves - Dig in the center of the circle of red mushrooms in the Focus Chamber. (On your right as you enter.)

Darkwood Lake - Shoot an arrow through the hole in the pillar that looks like a tusk. Go up to the pillar until it highlights. Press TAB to discover it has something in the hole. Get out your bow and as you pull back the arrow, right-click to use the close targeting feature. Press "+" all the way and aim for the center of the circle. The Silver Key will drop onto the ground in front of you. If it doesn't work, try again.

Ancient Cullis Gate - Ripple beside the stone bridge. (There's two bridges here but you want the one that spans water, not the one with bushes around it.)

Grey House - Ripple near Demon Door.

Oakvale Memorial Cemetery - Dig at base of statue with the axe. (You need to have completed the Pirate Ghost quest at Chicken Kicking before this will work.)

Twinblade's Camp - Dig in the center of the circle of red flowers and chests at the southeast corner of the map.

You can fish the ripple in the big pool at Witchwood Lake to get a Willmaster's Elixir.

You can do likewise at the ripple in the small pool between the house and the barn at Orchard Farm for an Elixir of Life.

As you approach the Picnic Area in Lookout Point there's a broken fence on your left with a ripple. Fish it to get an Ages of Skill potion.

You can go into Grey House and battle the skeletons inside. Then collect an Ages of Skill and an Ages of Will potions from the main floor and upstairs cabinets.

There are more items you can collect repeatedly during this quest but you need only do it twice to get 30 Silver Keys to open any Silver Chest in the game. Reload as many times as you like for the other items.

Each time you reload this quest from a Hero Save, start the quest and then go see the shopkeeper you sold most of your potions to. Buy them again. They aren't free but he will have more than you can normally purchase any other time. You'll likely have more money too from killing bandits and creatures as you seek your keys.

Nice layout, but I think the quest exploit is pretty well known.
Also, doing those kind of exploits is dangerous due the crashes they might cause.

Nah, it doesn't cause any crashes. I've done this many times. The reason you can go anywhere on the map is simple: You need to search to find the archeologist. Not much point if you could only go to one or two places.

This technique is entirely within the normal playing parameters of the game. In no way is it a cheat.
Play smarter, not harder!

I thought I'd lay this out here as I've read all those other tips and pointers. None of them ever suggested that you could get all the keys so early in the game. :)
