Problem with config,

I used to play BG2 quite a bit and have recently begun to replay it after a hiatus of several years. Unfortunately, I've run into a problem:

The config.exe. Whichever options I change (notably resolution and hardware) automatically reset when I start the actual game.
Any help would be appreciated.
Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes right down to the bone
