Have You Ever

Post by Anara »

I'm currently in the middle of playing through the Child of Bhaal series (yet) again. As of now, I'm in chapter 3, but I'm doing some side quests in the southwestern areas.

Then I came to the area that contains Drizzt Do'Urden - actually, I went there because of some Half-Ogres that Bjornin the Paladin (resident at the Jovial Juggler) wanted me to kill.

But somewhat south of where you meet (and help) Drizzt kill some Gnolls, I came upon a group of Flinds (I'm not sure about the spelling, but it's those blue-looking Gnolls). And while looting these, I came upon a certain letter.

The letter was not (in terms of object or graphic) shaped like a spell scroll, mind you, but rather like one of the Bounty Notices or Gorion's Letter.

Here is what it said:

"Why does a chair have arms and legs like a man but cannot walk or hold things"

Now, I'm pretty sure that it is just random - that is to say I do not think it has a specific purpose, quest-wise. But having played through this series quite a number of times, and not having had this experience before to my knowledge or memory, I just wanted to share. :)

Have any of you had this experience - or mayhap a similar one?

It's rather a profound question, though ;) :p

Yeah I've seen it numerous times and it doesn't seem to have any useful purpose
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

It's just one of those neat little things. :)

Yes, it's rather nice, is it not? :)

I cannot quite think of a thing that random that occurs in the game...you could argue for the messengers that you come across in the wilderness from time to time, but even they have a sort of purpose; I guess it's sort of connecting your own personal quests to perhaps a grander scale - politically - to the conflict between Baldur's Gate and Amn?

But I guess there's lots of things hidden in there - little gems, perhaps, that does not seem to have a direct purpose concerning the storyline itself, but which all gives the game a little flavour? :)

Thank you for the replies, by the way. :)

By the way, who's that girl in your avatar, Klorox? I seem to recognize her from somewhere... :)

I think its just in there for flavor. Like the autograph from Larry, Darryl and Daryl... I was hoping that one turned out to be something but, alas, it did not...

I think that it is just a joke, it does however have a slight purpose, as if my memory serves me well that and the autograph get quite good prices at High hedge.

Talking of good prices, I charmed Oubliek in Nashkel to help in the fight against Niera yesterday. It was as well that I did as both of my characters got held. he decoyed Niera away. However on dying, I got four emeralds for which I recieved 3000gp at the carnival, far more than at the usual shops. It came as a very pleasant surprise indeed.

I know at least that the letter that I spoke of sells for 100 gold pieces; quite a bit more than your usual letter :)

Interesting story there, grimwald, on those emeralds. Wish I would have thought of that :)

My idea isn't patented, so feel free to use it. It shows what a warped mind I have. :D
I've just realised that I should probably have put a spoiler tag on it. Sorry :(
