Question about mod "Hard Times"

Post by scaryogre »

Hello,

I was wondering how many of you have used the mod described here:

Hard Times

It sounds interesting, but I am curious how much it will effect the gameplay and enjoyment of Baldur's Gate for someone that has never played the game before. Will it make the game significantly more difficult or less enjoyable? I kind of like the idea of (as the mod states) of feeling the iron shortage effect in the game especially with prices of items and the economy overall. It seems more realistic to me, but would appreciate input from anyone that has used it.

I have installed EasyTuTu for the enhanced interface and also the DeGreenifier, but that is it so far.

I am also considering installing the BG1 NPC Project. Does it matter what order I install Hard Times and BG1 NPC Project? Any recommendations with the above mods or stuff to watch out for before I start my first game? :)

Thanks!

Personally, I think that your first playthrough you should play without ANY mods as most of them DO change the feel of the game. Then, perhaps on your later playthroughs, you should install the mods if you feel like it.

I think that the first playthrough of the game you should always play unmodded, even without TuTu. Just the latest patch.

I understand what you are saying, but this will likely be my first and only playthrough of the game. I have too many other games I am waiting to play.

So the reason I decided on EasyTuTu is because I tried just BG/ToSC by itself and the resolution was killing me. With EasyTuTu I can at least play in 800x600 and it makes some enhancements to the game. I also had to turn off 3D acceleration in the BG/ToSC game because the water was all black, the items were missing graphics, and I had a lot of other graphical problems. Plus the game slowed down horribly. With EasyTutu the game seems a lot more polished just because of the higher resolution and is working perfectly.

I am planning on playing a fighter (or perhaps a fighter/cleric).

Anyway, thanks for your feedback.
