[technical issues] IWD doesnt like Windows XP (or my PC)

Post by Endugu »

Hi everybody,

Im trying to run Icewind Dale (plus Heart Of Winter and Trials Of The Luremaster in its up-to-date version) under Windows XP and well, I guess Im not exaggerating when I say its unplayable: The game runs with a framerate in the single digits and me having to wait ~10secs for a menu to open (inventory etc) after clicking the proper button or waiting for the screen to fade from black after an area transition - definitely not my idea of a fun time.
Of course, my first idea was to upgrade, or rather, since this is an older game, downgrade my graphics drivers (Radeon Mobility 7500). However no matter which driver I install, theres no effect on the game. Interestingly the game runs totally fine on Windows 98 SE, but Id rather not boot a different OS everytime Id like to venture into the north...

Is this a well-known bug I just overlooked the fix for? Did anyone experienced something similar?
Any ideas are welcome! :)

Though I have no problems running it on Windows XP, try right clicking on the execution file, navigating over to the "Compatibility" tab and running it in Windows 98 compatibility mode.

Ive already tried that (sorry, forgot to mention in in the original post) as wellas running with/without OpenGL. Doesnt make any difference, unfortunately.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)
